In The New Year
I hope you are all recovering from a fun NYE weekend! With temperatures below freezing and fog hanging low in the air, my boyfriend and I drove to the university town of Breda, Netherlands for our New Year festivities. This city is brimming with cobblestone and brick, making for a lovely afternoon of wandering the city center and snapping a few photos. Our picturesque afternoon was followed by an rather cold evening, but was filled with celebration and champagne to bring in the new year. Although there were fireworks booming nearly the entire day, due to the fog, we were only able to see them at the massive midnight display. Perhaps next year we will have more luck with the weather, but it was such a gorgeous afternoon that I did not mind the slight setback on this year’s celebration!
With below-freezing temperatures on the daily, I need to have an arsenal of cute and functional coats to wear out into the chill. I am one of those people that needs socks and slippers every morning and evening, plus a blanket or two before my feet even think about warming up, so when I must leave my cozy house, I make sure and prepare well. Coats and jackets with wool, extra long coats, or coats with a nice high collar are always welcome in my closet! This superbly long coat from Zaful is a great option for days when I want to look pulled together, but also fit a layer or two underneath for extra warmth. The length adds a nice layer to my legs and keeps any wind out of the way. I wore this get-up on NYE day and despite the temperature, this coat-sweater combo was an excellent store-hopping-and-grabbing-coffee outfit. Paired with some trusty pinstripe chino trousers and with a bit of fishnet-clad ankle peaking out, it made for an excellent wintertime outfit. Luckily, it does not snow or rain much here in The Netherlands, so it is not such a crime to have bare ankles in the cooler months!
I hope you are enjoying your start to 2017 (Eek, time goes so fast!) and stay warm!
