Wide-legged trousers and above-the-ankle flairs have pushed everyone’s trusty skinny jeans to the side. When I first started styling my looser-fit bottoms, I often would pair something fitted on top to make sure I have some shape, but after feeling a bit inspired on Pinterest I started pairing pieces of clothing in my wardrobe that were oversized. The result? I am in LOVE.

One small tip when purchasing oversized sweaters and trousers: Make sure the item you have tried on is hitting in the right place on your body. I think it is quite easy to try on your first pair of wide-legged trousers and think the style does not suit you. There are so many variables such as the height of the waistband, how flared or straight they are cut, and where they hit on your shoe. I always aim to have wide-legged trousers skim the floor with shoes on, which means they might be a bit too long in store. If you are going for the coulotte style, you generally want them to stop between the knee and ankle. (But hey, rules are meant to be broken!)

The same goes for oversized sweaters; they can look mushy and shapeless if the length is too long, or hits at an odd part of your body, and sometimes you have to try a few times before finding the one that looks and feels perfect.

I hope this helps! Let me know what you think in the comments and don’t forget to subscribe!
