An American & A Dutchie
How exciting, to be writing about my engagement for the first time! Of course, I have already publicized the news on all of my social channels, so hopefully, this is not breaking news! ?
Now, where to start…
My (now) fiance and I have been discussing whether or not we should get married for years now, because it is not in Dutch fashion to get married in your 20’s. But since I am American and fantasize about throwing a big party in the name of love while blowing an outrageous amount of money on a dress, we decided to move ahead and started planning. And, let me tell you, we have some fun things ahead!
First off, both Thomas and I knew that if we held the wedding in either the Pacific Northwest (my stomping grounds) or in the Netherlands (his), the wedding guests distribution would be pretty lopsided on one side or the other. We quickly remedied this by decided to take the wedding outside of our home countries and have settled on arranging our wedding in Italy!
We both share a love for Italian culture and food, and try to escape to one of our favorite cities at least once a year to completely unwind and enjoy life as it was meant to be lived. It wasn’t hard to decide on this as our destination and has allowed me to start planning our big day with images swirling in my head; stretches of vineyards as far as the eye can see, plenty of prosecco and wine to go around, and a Mediterranean sunset at our backs.
I have started saving inspiration for our big day in a giant Pinterest board and bookmarking various image on instagram and other blogs that have caught my attention since our engagement. For me, the thrill is in the planning and I am so excited to start!
